Writing Music

I'm composing as a part of music this year which I'm really excited about.  I'm not very good yet but I'm starting to learn that the key for writing it right now is just writing it and not being afraid if it sounds wrong.  I think that's how it is with a lot of things... the key is simply not worrying if something is wrong the first time instead of telling yourself your not able.  You can fix mistakes later.  Anyway, that picture is what I was working on tonight.  It was a much easier task this time thankfully.  Just a little 8 bar melody but being a bit of a perfectionist sometimes, it took me a while.  My point was don't let fear or discouragement stop you from doing stuff you want to or being creative.

We're All Weird

Okay guys.... I came across this today and thought I would share it you.  It's by an actor who to be honest I always thought was really weird and still do but in a hysterical kind of way.  The great Johnny Depp.  Then again as the quote says, "everybody's weird".  So embrace your uniqueness.  Celebrate the fact your not a robot manufactured by our society.  Your you.

The Perfect Meal

OK, so I'm getting a turn to make dinner this week and I have decided to make my idea of an ideal summer dinner.  It had to be fast and easy (considering I'm not used to cooking and don't want to spend forever in the kitchen).  I decided to make a main dish, a side and a dessert because if I'm given pretty much free reign in the kitchen I have to make something sweet.  Anyway, here is my idea of a perfect meal for someone who wants quick tasty simple food.

My main:

15 minute chicken pasta.  Simple, healthy and delicious. Looking forward to making it.  I'm a BIG pasta lover and also a big fan of my veggies so this dish is perfect for me.  Check out the recipe here.

My side:

Potato rosti.  Basically potatoes that are halved, boiled, shredded and fried into individual cakes.  They are like hashbrowns.  They are great because everybody in my family likes potatoes.  I know it will go down much better than the main.  Not everyone in my family will want to try the broccoli but a broccoli free side should please them.  They look delicious and I'm thinking of frying a chopped onion and adding it to the potatoes after I shred them.  I got the recipe for these from Hugh Fernley Whittingstall's cook book Veg Everyday which had lots of great healthy meat free meal ideas.  Here is a link to the recipe online. http://www.rivercottage.net/recipes/potato-rosti/

My dessert:

Hazelnut tart with orange marscapone and strawberries.  What's more summery than fresh fruit?  Now I know that this is much more extravagant, unhealthy and time consuming than the others but I can't wait to try it out.  Three flavours I love are hazelnut, orange, and strawberry but I'd never thought of putting them together.  If your on a diet or in a rush this might not be for you but I am thrilled to have it as part of my meal.  It looks simple enough to make but still appears impressive and very elegant.   It's still only takes 20 minutes to prepare and 25 minutes to cook so you could have it in the oven while you make the rest of your meal.  Here is the recipe for this delightful dessert.   http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1426644/hazelnut-tart-with-orange-mascarpone-and-strawberr

Olympics

Ok, so the Olympics have begun.  We've all been wowed by the breathtaking opening ceremony featuring some famous British icons such as Mr. Bean (who was rocking it on the keys), James Bond and of coarse Her Majesty along with a number of others but what really makes the Olympics for me is watching the standard of performance in different events get higher each year.  It amazes me how people keep improving on past records.  Anyway, It's such an inspiration to watch people who train for four years, so they can have their chance at making history for a few short moments.  It makes me want to strive to put more effort into developing my skills because practice makes perfect!  Thank you Olympians.

Writing again

Ok, so I've always wanted to be an author.  Ever since I was little I was making up stories.  I remember having my mom write them down for me.  When I got a little older I started writing them down myself and illustrating them.  I decided from a young age that I would be a children's author and illustrator.  That dream has changed over the years but I still hope I will do lots of creative writing when I'm older.  Anyway, I realised that I am not currently doing a ton of creative writing except for in school which is almost over so I started writing a novel.  Wether or not I'll get anywhere close to finishing it I'm not sure but at least I made a start.  I used to write a lot when I was younger.  I still have a notebook with a book  I started writing when I was about nine or ten that is probably supposed to be a third of the way finished.  It has a considerable amount of pages in it and I did stick to writing in it for a long time and poured a lot of effort into it.  It's too bad I stopped.  It's really funny looking back and reading over it.  I loved Narnia at the time so the book is about 4 children who discover a new world in the same place a boy disappeared 100 years before.  My new project is about a girl who loves to act and gets accepted into a top acting school.  I think she will become conflicted later on in the book about following another path.  I'm not sure yet though.  It's fun just coming up with ideas and jotting them down.  I'll make sure to keep you posted if the book amounts to anything.

Typewriters

I have always been interested in typewriters although I am too young to have ever had to use one.  Maybe it's because I love writing so much.  I remember asking for a type writer for Christmas one year when I was probably between eight and ten.  I never did get one but that is probably due to a long list of other gift requests from me.  I also read a book series about a girl growing up in the 40s who made her own newspapers on a typewriter up in her room and that may have been a big trigger for the type writer gift request my parents received.  Vintage type writers look so classic and creative.  Anyways I thought I might share with you a few type writer etsy finds.  Enjoy!

Hey, this is my new blog.  I hope you like it.  On this blog I'm going to discuss my thoughts, opinions, views and any new craft projects I'm into.  Enjoy!
